The Science Behind Hair Types

Discover How Hair Structure Influences Texture, Strength, Moisture, and Growth

Every crown is different. Your hair may be straight, wavy, curly, or coily, and you may even have multiple

patterns growing from the same scalp.

At Lady Euvoia, we believe understanding your hair is the first step toward caring for it intentionally.

The hair-type system below helps identify your natural pattern, while other characteristics such as porosity, density, strand thickness, elasticity, and scalp condition help determine what your hair actually needs.

Your hair type doesn't define your hair's health. It simply helps you understand your crown.

Type 1 — Straight Hair

Straight hair generally falls from the root without forming a defined wave or curl pattern. It can range from very fine and delicate to thick and coarse.

Type 1A

Fine & Very Straight

Characteristics

  • Extremely straight

  • Fine strands

  • Usually lies close to the scalp

  • Can become oily more quickly

  • May lack natural volume

  • Can be easily weighed down by heavy products

Moisture Needs

1A hair typically benefits from lightweight hydration rather than heavy butters and oils. Too much product can leave the hair flat, greasy, or weighed down.

Recommended Routine

  1. Cleanse the scalp regularly.

  2. Use a lightweight conditioner primarily through the lengths.

  3. Avoid applying heavy oils or butters directly to the roots unless needed.

  4. Use a lightweight moisturizing mist when additional hydration is needed.

  5. Keep styling products minimal.

  6. Protect the hair from excessive heat.

Lady Euvoia Product Suggestions

  • Angel Touch Shampoo — gentle cleansing

  • Cloud Kiss Conditioner — lightweight conditioning

  • Angel Mist — refreshing hydration

  • Eden Growth Oil — use sparingly on the scalp or ends as needed

Type 2 — Wavy Hair

Wavy hair forms a visible wave or "S" pattern but does not typically form consistent curls throughout the hair.

Type 2A

Loose Waves

Characteristics

  • Fine to medium strands

  • Loose, subtle waves

  • Can become flat at the roots

  • Easily weighed down

  • May experience frizz in humid conditions

Moisture Needs

The goal is hydration without heaviness.

  2. Condition without overloading the hair.

  3. Apply Angel Mist lightly when additional moisture is needed.

  4. Scrunch waves while damp.

  5. Avoid excessive oils and heavy butters.

Type 3 — Curly Hair

Type 3 hair forms visible curls or loops. Curly hair can range from loose, large curls to tight, springy curls.

Type 3A

Loose Curls

Characteristics

  • Large, loose curls

  • Usually clearly defined

  • Can become frizzy when dehydrated

  • May lose definition with heavy products

  • Moderate moisture needs

Type 4 — Coily/Kinky Hair

Remember: Type 4 hair isn't inherently unhealthy or fragile. Its unique structure simply means that moisture retention and gentle handling can be particularly important.

Type 4A

Defined Coils

Characteristics

  • Small, clearly defined coils

  • Spring-like pattern

  • Significant shrinkage

  • Can become dry quickly

  • Requires regular moisture

  • May be prone to tangling

Your Hair Type Isn't the Whole Story

Finding your 1A–4C pattern is helpful, but don't stop there.

Your hair's needs can also be influenced by:

Porosity

Porosity describes how easily your hair takes in and retains moisture.

Hair is commonly described as:

  • Low porosity

  • Medium/normal porosity

  • High porosity

Strand Thickness

Individual strands can be:

  • Fine

  • Medium

  • Coarse

Density

Density refers to how much hair you have on your scalp.

You may have:

  • Low density

  • Medium density

  • High density

Elasticity

Elasticity describes how well your hair stretches and returns to its original shape.

Scalp Condition

Your scalp is the foundation from which your hair grows. Excessive dryness, irritation, buildup, or other scalp concerns may require a different approach to your routine.

Remember: Your Crown Is Unique

You don't have to fit perfectly into one category.

You may have:

3B curls in the front + 3C curls in the back.

4A coils around your crown + 4B/4C sections elsewhere.

Fine strands + high density.

Low porosity + extremely dry ends.

Your hair doesn't have to follow a chart perfectly to deserve intentional care.

At Lady Euvoia, we believe...

There is no “better” hair type.

Straight. Wavy. Curly. Coily.

Every texture is beautiful.

Every crown is different.

And every crown deserves care that is intentional, thoughtful, and rooted in love.

Know your hair. Understand your needs. Love your crown.

Care for the crown you were given.

How Hair Chemicals Affect Your Body: What the Science Reveals

Our products are thoughtfully formulated with safe, natural ingredients that prioritize both effectiveness and well-being. We believe that what you put on your hair and scalp should be as clean and gentle as it is powerful, which is why every ingredient is carefully selected for its non-toxic profile and proven benefits.

Together, this power couple combined their passion, expertise, and shared vision to create Lady Euvoia’s natural hair care formula. Blending her deep understanding of holistic beauty with his commitment to innovation and quality, they crafted a product line rooted in purity, performance, and purpose.

Hair care is often treated as cosmetic, but the products we apply to our hair and scalp interact directly with the body. The scalp is living skin, rich in blood vessels and hair follicles, making it a pathway through which chemicals can enter the body. Understanding how hair chemicals affect overall health is essential for making informed, safer choices.
